When is the best time to travel to Morocco?

On this page

Morocco can be visited all year round, but the best time to travel depends on the regions you want to visit and the kind of experience you're after.

Spring (March to May)

Spring is probably the best time to travel to Morocco. Temperatures are pleasant throughout the country, between 20 °C and 28 °C. It's ideal for visiting Marrakech, Fes, the desert and the coast. The landscapes are green and in bloom.

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is another excellent time. Temperatures drop after the summer heat and the weather is perfect for touring the imperial cities, the kasbahs and the Sahara. In October and November the desert is especially beautiful.

Summer (June to August)

Summer is very hot, especially in Marrakech and the desert, where temperatures can exceed 45 °C. However, it's a good time to visit the coast (Essaouira, Agadir) or the Atlas Mountains, where it's cooler.

Winter (December to February)

Winter is cool, especially at night in the desert (it can drop to 0 °C). But the days are sunny and it's a good time to visit the cities without the summer crowds. It snows in the Atlas.

When to go to the desert?

For the Merzouga desert and Erg Chebbi, the best times are spring and autumn. Avoid July and August because of the extreme heat. In winter the nights are very cold but the days are beautiful.
