The 3-day tour from Marrakech to the Merzouga desert is one of the most complete routes to discover southern Morocco in a short time. On the trip we cross the High Atlas, visit the kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, pass through Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley and the Todra Gorge, and reach the dunes of Erg Chebbi.
This route is ideal for travellers who want to experience the Sahara with a camel ride, sunset over the dunes, a Berber dinner, local music and a night at a camp in Merzouga. We cross the High Atlas mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass, with photo stops at viewpoints, Berber villages and mountain landscapes.
We visit the famous kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, a setting for films and series and one of the most important places in southern Morocco.
We follow the road of the kasbahs and the Dades Valley, known for its reddish landscapes, gorges and traditional villages.
Stop at the Todra Gorge, a natural canyon with high rock walls, ideal for walking and taking photos.
Arrival in Merzouga to enter the Erg Chebbi dunes by camel, enjoy the sunset and sleep at a camp.
On the way back to Marrakech we pass palm groves, southern villages and desert areas as far as Ouarzazate.

We cross the High Atlas via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with viewpoints over valleys, adobe Berber villages and peaks that are snow-capped in winter.
Walking visit of the ksar of Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the setting for films such as Gladiator and series such as Game of Thrones. We climb up to the fortified granary to see the whole Ounila valley.
Ouarzazate, the “gateway to the desert”: view of the Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas film studios, where dozens of international productions have been shot.
The Skoura palm grove, an oasis dotted with old kasbahs such as Amridil, one of the best preserved in the south.
The Dades Gorge and its famous mountain bends, with reddish rock formations (“the monkey fingers”) and villages perched above the river.
We stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way (lunch not included) and for photos at the viewpoints you like best.
Arrival at the Dades Gorge in the afternoon and overnight at the accommodation.
Breakfast and departure from the Dades Gorge towards the Todra Gorge.
Walk through the Todra Gorge, a canyon with walls up to 300 metres high and a crystal-clear river, a paradise for climbers.
Erfoud, the capital of dates and fossils: visit to a workshop where they work fossilised marble that is millions of years old.
We stop for lunch at a local restaurant on the way (lunch not included) and for photos at the viewpoints you like best.
In the late afternoon we arrive in Merzouga, where the camel caravan is waiting. We leave the big luggage at the guesthouse and, with a small backpack, cross the Erg Chebbi dunes by camel (approx. 1 h 30 min) as the sun sets over the Sahara. Arrival at the camp, welcome tea, Berber dinner and music around the fire under a sky full of stars.
We get up early to watch the sunrise from the top of the dunes. Breakfast at the camp and return by camel (or 4x4) to the guesthouse, where there are showers and we pick up the luggage. Departure towards Rissani.
Rissani, cradle of the Alaouite dynasty: its traditional market (the “donkey car park” on market days) and the old ksar.
Alnif, one of the most famous fossil (trilobite) areas in the world.
N'Kob, the village of 45 kasbahs, at the foot of the Jbel Saghro massif.

We recommend a small backpack with comfortable clothes, a jacket, personal items, a charger, a camera, sunglasses and what you need for one night. Your big luggage can stay in the vehicle.
We usually leave around 8:00 am. We pick you up at your hotel or riad in Marrakech; if you arrive by plane the same day, we can pick you up at the airport and adjust the departure time.
Approximate driving times, not counting stops: day 1: 7 h; day 2: 4 h 30 min; day 3: 9 h 30 min. We stop whenever you need for photos, a rest or a meal.

Yes. The “from” price is per person and varies with group size, season and accommodation category. The larger the group, the cheaper it is per person.
A small backpack with what you need for one night: warm clothes (it gets cool at night, especially from November to March), a torch or charged phone, a power bank, sunglasses, sunscreen, a scarf for the sand and comfortable shoes. Your big luggage stays at the guesthouse or in the vehicle.
The superior and luxury camps have tents with a private bathroom and shower. At the standard camp the bathrooms are shared. Tell us which you prefer when booking.
